A word for the new year…
As I type this, those of us that live on the east coast of the United States are about 6 hours away from 2023. Personally, I’ve never been much of a new year’s celebration person. What? So, I have to buy a new calendar now? Never been much for resolutions either. So much pressure and no one sticks to them, and we all know it.
However, in more recent years, I’ve aimed to be more intentional, by asking God if there’s something He’d like me to focus on as I slowly work my way through another Target Dollar Spot calendar. If there’s a specific word to carry with me as a goal or something to improve on. I know that some people really commit significant time in their asking. I take a more relaxed approach and just ask Him kinda randomly. I say this because I don’t want you thinking you need something like a 3-day retreat to hear from God. You don’t. Just ask Him.
Last year, the word He gave me was “surrender”. And I did. I surrendered. And He was so, so faithful. In many ways, I’m not the same person I was, and I’m incredibly thankful. I’m free from burdens I didn’t realize I was carrying. Free from anxiety and fear I didn’t even know I had. It’s pretty wild to think about. All because I asked Him – “Hey God. Anything specific you want me to think on or do this year?”
So maybe, at the start of this new year, that’s a question you should ask. And maybe, just maybe, the God of the universe will show up and change your life too.
